There are only 2 white northern rhinos left in the world, Fauna and Flora!
The Issue
There are only 2 northern white rhinos left in the world, sadly they are both female, they both live in protection against poaching in Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy, their names are Flauna and Flora. The last male white rhino ( Sudan) died of a heart attack on March 19th 2018.
White rhinos were once thrived in Central Africa, but staggering rates of illegal hunting started occurring, the animals were being hunted for their horns. Illegal hunting has led this species to its (almost certain) extinction.
But there is still hope today, your support could offer a lifeline for these beautiful creatures, Fauna and Flora.
How can we save these animals, well heres what Dr Rob Brett (FFI’s Senior Technical Specialist) says, “It may be possible to generate and conserve future offspring from the remaining animals at some time in the future. This will depend not only on full collaboration and sharing of expertise between artificial reproduction specialists from South Africa, Europe and the US, but also on securing the funding and capacity required to establish dedicated lab and rhino management facilities at Ol Pejeta, so that any future offspring can live and thrive in a natural habitat.”
