STOPPING CYBERCRIMES
By Mary Denielle Love D.
Cybercrime is a crime that uses a computer as a tool for offense. It's usually used for looking at an individual’s privacy and then using it against them. Doing cybercrime is mostly done because of the amount of money given to a person if they did the job but, on the other hand using or looking at a person’s privacy is our power to choose our thoughts and feelings and who we share it to. It also protects our information we don’t want shared publicly.
In my opinion, cybercrime should be stopped because people should respect and accept that everyone has their boundaries and everything doesn’t have to be said publicly. A computer has use for many things and using crime on computers just becomes a reason why people would avoid using technology because of these crimes.
The topic is cybercrimes and how to stop it. Cybercrime has had many serious damages to people just because of getting private information that should've been touched. Not only opening people's privacy is cybercrimes problems there are many more. For example, these other crimes are online impersonation, social network fraud, cyberbullying and many more other crimes that can be committed by using a computer and can ruin or damage a person’s life.
How to stop cybercrime? It won’t be stopped but, there are ways It can possibly make it less. That is educating them. Educating might sound a bit tiring but many young people use technology at a very early age and they should be educated to be careful using technology. Don’t use it for their own interest there’s many other uses for technology than using it for crimes.
CYBERBULLYING
By Ruth Jane S. Posadas
Why do people bully? It’s a question that surely crossed your mind once in your life. If not, then you should think of it now. Especially nowadays, cases of online harassment have increased since everyone is spending a lot of time on social media as a result of being in quarantine. Technology innovations deeply changed the way things work—in this case, we will tackle bullying. Are you a victim or are you the one who bullies? Either way, there are a lot of things you should know about cyber bullying and why it should be stopped.
“The pen is mightier than the sword,” Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1839). This prominent quote signifies how words can cut deeper in a person more than any physical pain. Verbal bullying exemplifies one of the most painful things that words can do. Studies show how bad this type of crime can affect a person mentally. The victim can experience estrangement, humiliation, isolation, anxiety, depression, and develop trust-issues, sensitivity, and become diffident. Worst, a victim can be suicidal or homicidal.
If you are bullied online, there are laws that can protect you and your rights as an individual. The Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 (RA 10627) and The Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act are just a few of those laws, do not be afraid and hesitate to call for help. However, if you’re the one who bullies, it’s never too late to change and educate yourself of how you should really behave in the society. Face the consequences of your mistake and correct it with change.
Social media is indeed powerful. Everyone has access to it and can do whatever they want with it. Hence, bad things surely can happen within it every day. In fact, your closest friend, or your relative, or even YOU might’ve already experienced those first handedly. Therefore, I encourage you to be an advocate to stop online bullying and other forms of cybercrimes to save a life and keep the internet a safe place for all.
