Implement reduced bus fare for University Students

Implement reduced bus fare for University Students
The Issue
I am an Undergraduate Full-time Third Year University of Toronto student who commutes downtown 4 days a week. I have been commuting to school via the York Region Transit to then transfer onto the TTC. The YRT fare alone costs $8.00 per day ($4, one-way). I have done the calculations, proving that students taking the YRT twice daily for 5 days a week are paying a whopping $160.00 per month (this is not including the additional TTC fare needed to commute downtown). In comparison, the Mississauga MiWay transit fare ($3.25 per one-way) amounts to $130.00 per month. For those who believe students should resort to the PRESTO system as a form of cheaper fares, the PRESTO fare on the YRT is $3.30 while it is only $2.45 on MiWay. Why should the York Region Transit implement higher fares compared to other Transit companies, considering it is a system which has seen little improvement? The YRT has succeeded to implement a Highschool student fare ($2.50 per one-way, only by purchasing the 10-pack of tickets) yet has failed to consider the students who have to pay for tuition, textbooks, personal needs, and on top of it all, overpriced YRT fare. It is senseless that as struggling students we are required to pay the same fare as adults, who have higher paying jobs on average. I believe the York Region Transit's overpriced bus fares are permitting the majority of students to struggle with their finances and even, remain in debt. Please sign my petition if you support the change for University students to receive a reduced bus fare rate and be relieved of the inflated fares the York Region Transit places over us as University students .
