Make William and Mary affordable and diverse

We write to you as a large group of students deeply concerned about the fact that the College of William and Mary is the least socioeconomically diverse public university in the United States, to ask you to urgently take steps to make our college a more accessible and diverse place.

As a public university, an education at W&M should be as accessible as possible. Moreover, a student body with diverse backgrounds creates a stronger learning environment and immensely enriches all of our experiences.

With the highest in-state tuition of any public university in the state and the lowest percentage of students receiving federal Pell Grants of any public university in the nation, we are falling catastrophically short of the type of community we strive to be.

We call for:
No increase in tuition this year.
Prioritization of financial aid in the budget.
Increased recruitment at lower socioeconomic high schools and regions.
An affirmation of W&M’s commitment to remaining a public university.
