Urge the Joplin Area Catholic Schools to change their mascot: The Warrior

Urge the Joplin Area Catholic Schools to change their mascot: The Warrior
The Issue
The Joplin Area Catholic School(s) are a long-standing private religious educational institution located in Joplin, Missouri. They provide an alternative to public school, and they supplement their curriculum with religious teachings aligned with the Catholic belief system. The mascot of this institution is the Warrior, which is depicted as a fair-skinned male with a war paint and wearing a traditional Native American feathers. It has been brought to the attention of the school administration that the use of the image and likeness of a Native Person is deeply offensive, racist, and inappropriate—especially given the complicated and violent history between First Peoples and the Catholic Church. Join us in petitioning a change of the mascot to ensure the continuance of this private school system as a modern and inclusive entity, eliminating racial bias and in educating their student population.
