Hello. Before I break this saddening news report, we are currently at 1,326 signatures as of this update. Still making great progress.
Unfortunately, I have bad news for those who reside in Latin America: On November of this year, CineColor (Disney's licensed physical media distributor in the aforementioned region) will no longer be releasing any more physical movies in any format. Read this article for more information (An English translation is included at the bottom of the linked page): https://blogdojotace.com.br/2020/08/27/urgente-disney-abandona-mercado-de-midia-fisica-na-america-latina/
Affected territories (according to the article) include: Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Brazil.
As I always say, this is a really bad thing for both collectors and those without reliable high-speed internet who can't use streaming services. Aside from that 4K Ultra HD back catalog content fiasco that occurred earlier this month, there are currently no plans to end new physical releases from Disney in other regions, but who's to say they will start following this route in regions other than Latin America?
We need to do as much as we can to prove to Disney that physical media is still an important market before this starts to affect other regions. I really don't want most of the old Disney Channel Originals to be locked down to just streaming, bootleg DVDs, and old VHS tapes. Official physical DVD copies are still a desired option that people want to have, but still can't get. Let's do what we can to make sure that it won't stay this way forever.
For methods of contacting Disney and boutique home media publishers for convincing them to release more classic Disney Channel content to DVD, refer to my previous updates on this petition, just click that left arrow below this update page to find my previous update or click this link: Link to the previous update
Hopefully Disney doesn't resort to ending new physical movie releases elsewhere without releasing more classic Disney Channel content, and hopefully they consider finding a new distributor to handle Latin American media distribution.
