Encourage Disney To Diversify New Princesses

Encourage Disney To Diversify New Princesses
The Issue
Disney has created many princesses that are loved dearly by people of all ages. However, there is a huge lack of princesses of color, ethnicities, sexualities, religions and non religions. This needs to change.
The very first princess added to the official Disney Princess lineup was in 1937, and since then there has only been four princesses who are considered women of color (WOC). Those princesses, Jasmine (Arabian), Pocahontas (Native American), Mulan (Chinese), and Tiana (African American) make up a small 30% of the lineup. While the lack of representation doesn't seem as serious at first, Disney is one of the biggest companies in the world and their social impact is just as huge.
We need princesses that are not merely from European backgrounds and are white. We need more representation in Disney princesses because girls deserve to see themselves on film. We deserve princesses that embody who women are today because not all princesses want to wear pretty dresses or grow up to marry a prince. We want princesses that are more than that. We need more representation in Disney princesses because we don't see enough of ourselves in Disney movies that go on to become classics.
There are enough Disney princesses for young non-WOC, Christian, and heterosexual girls to look up to. It is time that Disney stops creating white princesses and begins to diversify their brand so that other little girls can have someone to look up to as well.
