Treasure Planet is a great Disney movie with amazing animation and a strong moral lesson to stand up for yourself & what you believe in. But, unfortunately, in 2002 it did not do well in the box office, and the production for the sequel was terminated, though it already had a cast, story-line, and character design. In my opinion, Treasure Planet failed in theaters because it had come before it's time.

I believe that, since the Treasure Planet fan base has grown greatly since it's original release, if Disney perhaps remastered the film and had play it in theaters again, along with merchandise sales, they would be able to fund the second movie. 

It has also been brought to my attention, quite frequently, that this movie has helped many teens through hard times in their lives. The main protagonist, Jim Hawkins, is an easily relatable, misunderstood teenage boy that goes on this amazing adventure to find treasure, but also finds himself, something that a lot of kids that age wish they could do. Knowing that other people could feel this way about their life and future, and can make it through it in tact, does give viewers hope.

Treasure Planet was such an underrated movie that I think would thrive in this day and age because a lot of teenagers & young adults go through similar issues, and it can help them through it
