Save Maritime Heritage in Victoria

The issue

With Regards to the Maritime Heritage within Victoria, Australia.

We the people of this State demand that steps are taken to save our decaying, historic piers along our coastline. These piers are being left to total neglect and decay, Williamstown in particular, which has significant Historical Piers is presently a disgrace and the piers continue to decay. So now they are closed.

It appears that the State Government has no plans to halt this decay or in fact support any Maritime Heritage Groups within the State of Victoria which includes Heritage ships MV Wyuna, Ex HMAS Castlemaine, Alma Doepel, Steam Tug Wattle and many other valuable Historic Maritime assets and areas of this State. As a Government you have a Duty for the Welfare of such Heritage for the future Generations to see and learn from and understand how this country was built.

Immigrants came to Australia by ship, this being an important part of Australian history, the Port of Melbourne being a huge part of that era.We are already missing out on the cruise ship tourists as our piers are not good enough for the large ships to berth

A Public Explanation of why up to $5 million has been allowed to remove and scrap the submarine Ex HMAS Otama from Westernport. In the public interest how could the Government allow this waste of public money when a much cheaper option is available, and that is about $600,000 to pull the Sub out of the water, the remaining balance of $5 million could be shared with other infrastructure, such as pier repairs and Volunteer Organisations who are struggling to keep our Maritime Heritage for Future Generations to learn and enjoy.

If the piers and jetties can be fixed now, then we will have somewhere for the cruise ships as well as our Heritage ships to berth and we can also have the Tall ships Festival back. So this State Government has a lot to answer for..
