The Untouchable Paedophile: Arrest and Extradite Iain Wares Now!

The Untouchable Paedophile: Arrest and Extradite Iain Wares Now!
The Issue
The Untouchable Paedophile: Arrest and Extradite Iain Wares Now! Justice for 68 Survivors!
For decades, Iain Wares abused his position as a teacher at esteemed schools in both South Africa and Scotland, committing horrific sexual and physical abuse against children between 1960s and 1980s. Despite overwhelming evidence and 68 formal complaints to Scotland Police, justice has been delayed for years.
An accumulation of around 100 charges have been laid numerous brave survivors in the UK have come forward, who seeking justice for the brutal abuse Wares committed against them.
Justice delayed is justice denied.
Wares's extradition was approved in 2020, but his legal team has manipulated the system to stall the process. However, in August 2024, the South African High Court upheld three charges in his extradition case, rejecting his attempt to evade justice in the UK.
Despite this, Wares remains in South Africa living freely on Western Cape’s South Peninsula. Time is running out—Wares is 85 years old, and every delay increases the risk that he will die before facing accountability for his crimes.
WE MUST ACT NOW !!!
The South African government has a duty to act with urgency. Survivors—both in South Africa and the UK—have waited too long for justice.
The Ministry of Justice has reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to combatting sexual violence, but additional extradition requests from the British High Commission have delayed Wares’s extradition arrest. We cannot allow bureaucratic inertia and legal loopholes to rob survivors of their long-overdue day in court.
Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) calls on the Department of Justice to ensure Iain Wares is extradited to Scotland with urgency. The South African public must rally together to emphasise the need for urgent action to arrest Iain Wares—sign this petition and help bring justice to the hundreds of children Wares abused.
