The NSFAS-funded students of The University of South Africa (UNISA) are struggling, sick, tired, and are getting no help from the Institution they are enrolled in.
Hundreds of thousands of students funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) are in anxiety and panic. As of today, 07 May 2021 - thousands of students funded by NSFAS await allowances which were promised to be paid by the end of April. This is unacceptable as thousands of students are now without mobile data, textbooks, some without food which they rely on NSFAS funds to purchase in emergencies.

Deadlines as soon as next week have been imposed and cannot be fulfilled as students do not have internet access, textbooks, stationery, or any other learning material for which R5200 has been designated. But is yet to be fulfilled.
Many students are suffering a great deal of anxiety as they await registration to be finalized. Communication with their payment system, a third-party institution called Intellimali has been a waste of resources.

Communication efforts with UNISA, NSFAS and Intellimali has been met with vague, and scant to vanishing feedback.

The students are hereby requesting the following:

- A new and improved process of paying funds directly to students' bank accounts.

- The phase-out of Intellimali as a third-party payment system.

- Regular, clear, reasonable and thorough communication of all payment dates and timeframes.

- The finalization of NSFAS-funded students' registrations. (who have been waiting for months.)

- Study materials be delivered on time and NSFAS-funded students awaiting study material be given proper clear and concise updates.

- That UNISA IMMEDIATELY improve their communication with learners who are essentially in the dark about almost everything.

The University of South Africa (UNISA) has been treating it's financial aid funded students like second-class citizens. Left in the dark, panicking, stressing, tossed aside, ignored, ignorant about their futures, and angry.

We are telling UNISA to act now. Not next week, not yesterday, NOW.
