The United States of America must enact a SERIOUS CRIME ACT
The Issue
The United States of America must enact a SERIOUS CRIME ACT
Since 2015 the United Kingdom has had a Serious Crime Act that includes domestic violence. Just recently they improved upon this in order to protect victims of abuse even further.

America needs to create something similar, and this must include any, and all abuse; coercive control, children, financial abuse, pets, mental abuse, post separation abuse, etc. If the U.K. can do this then so must we.
I am calling on all lawmakers to come together to make this happen, and to make this a nationwide law, so that there is no more disputes as to what judges, DAs, and law enforcement officers are required to do. We cannot allow for anymore deaths because of domestic violence.
This must include a nationwide domestic violence registry, so that if an abuser decides to leave the current state they are living in this will follow them wherever they go. This will also allow for law enforcement to be able to be notified if an abuser is attempting to purchase weapons. Weapons must never be allowed to be purchased by any domestic violence abusers.
We must also ensure this even further by requiring that bonds be set higher than normal, so that it makes it more difficult for these abusers to be released. This must also include ankle monitoring until the abuser has had their final Court appearance.
Mandatory protective orders must be included in order to further protect the victims of abuse. These protective orders must be taken seriously by law enforcement, so if they are violated even one time the abuser is automatically sent to prison until their trial date.
Take action, and contact your state representatives. Write to them, call them, and tell them you want them to represent you, and ask them to enact an American Serious Crime Act.
Domestic violence victims in America should not have had to wait 8 years to get what another country already established in order to protect their domestic abuse victims. We have no uniformity when it comes to domestic violence laws, because we are leaving this up to each individual states to decide, and we should no longer have to wait to see if they are going to care enough to act on this.
We must expect much more from our lawmakers, because if you are abusing someone who is a parent then you are abusing the child too. Mental health is equally as important, because this harms everyone who is involved. In America we talk about the great importance of mental health, so then we must also be willing to address the mental health of domestic violence victims.
We must also be willing to address physical health for survivors of abuse, because more often than not this occurs leaving victims debilitated. They can be left with traumatic brain injuries, serious vision problems, and much more.
Notwithstanding my mother’s personal experience with abuse, or my own, I know after communicating with many other victims of abuse they want to see significant changes. We are not going to accomplish this in America until we pass an airtight law, a serious law that tells abusers, these criminals exactly what is going to happen to you if you abuse anyone; your spouse, partner, boyfriend, girlfriend, your child, your pets that you will go to prison for a very long time. No one person should ever be able to have that much power over their victim. If this Act is not a deterrent to them then prison is exactly where they belong.
Mr. President, and Congress take action now. Please stop waiting to help victims of abuse who desperately need your help. In accordance with the Violence Against Women Act you could add this addendum, because the United States of America deserves a SERIOUS CRIME ACT. Stop enabling the abusers. Victims of abuse should not have to be kept waiting any longer for you to hold these domestic violence abusers accountable.
