Students across the country are suffering because they are not offered a Life Skills class in high school. Students are leaving high school not knowing how to do essential skills they will need throughout their lives. Students should learn a variety of skills within this class. These skills include: how to do taxes, basic cooking skills, basic sewing skills, how to budget, and how to manage a checkbook. More skills may be taught in these classes as well. 

Everyone pays taxes so students should learn how to do them and how they work before they have to do them. Budgeting is an essential skill that helps people to save money or allocate different amounts of money towards various things such as rent, bills, taxes, and other necessities. Every student will need to know these skills whether they are going into the workforce, going to college, or any other life path they may choose. Learning about wages, cooking, sewing, taxes, and other money skills should happen before students leave high school. Some people are fortunate to have learned these skills at home but due to the number of schools that do not offer these classes many parents do not have these skills either. Teaching these skills in high schools across the country will help prepare students for their futures.
