Improved Safety for Children at Leeder Lane and Civic Centre Road

Due to concerns regarding the safety of our children on their way to school, parents from St. Francis of Assisi and Valour schools would like the Town of Petawawa to invest in a crossing guard to improve the safety of the Leeder Lane and Civic Centre Road intersection. The intersection is complicated for school crossings due to the many lanes of traffic that can pass through that intersection in all directions, as well as the volume of cars and pedestrians during school bell times. Having a crossing guard at that intersection improves the visibility of the children, helps to control and funnel the flow of pedestrian traffic, and can help reduce vehicle speeds and erratic driving. This will make the intersection safer for our children and help increase the number of students using active transportation to get to and from school.
