The Supported Wage System

The Supported Wage System
The issue
The Supported Wage System (SWS) relies on external assessors who evaluate the performance of individuals with disabilities based on a percentage. This method does not foster personal or professional growth adequately. It lacks a collaborative approach that focuses on improving individuals' personal development and skill sets that they bring into jobs.
In Western Australia (WA), the government emphasizes the importance of job creation and skill development. However, under the current SWS model, people with disabilities face limitations in progressing within the workplace due to inadequate recognition of their skills, abilities, and qualifications. Productivity-based wages alone fail to capture the true potential and contributions that individuals with disabilities can offer.
Instead, the system should shift to a more holistic assessment model that evaluates one's skills, abilities, behavior in relation to tasks, and qualifications. This aligns better with WA government guidelines, which aim to create pathways for all individuals, including those with disabilities, to participate meaningfully in the workforce.
Enhancing the SWS to a model that focuses on skill development and personal growth will not only enable individuals to advance their careers but will also build a more inclusive workforce in WA. It will empower people with disabilities to embark on a fulfilling journey of career progression and skill mastery.
Join us in advocating for these crucial changes to the SWS. Let's work towards a fairer system that supports the personal and professional development of people with disabilities. Sign the petition to promote a more inclusive workplace in Western Australia for all individuals.
I do support ADE to stay as part of this project! ( this will adapt better pathways for people with a disability)
