Our uniform police love to tell us how we’re wearing our uniform wrong. But how many times have you seen them wear the uniform? 

We all know Mr Waqa isn’t a stickler for the rules. We’ve all seen him get away with the things we’ve nabbed a detention for. I say it’s time to revolt. Until he wears the Brisbane State High School uniform perfectly all day every day, he has no right to tell us to take off that jacket, or take out that piercing, or wash off that makeup. 

The school uniform is just plain ugly, let’s be real. Or at the very least, it’s uncomfortable. When have you seen the school jumper actually look *good* on someone? Sure, I might get mocked for my Target-brand grey hoodie, but at least I’m comfortable. 

An extra earring and a few rings won’t affect my learning. A tongue piercing and maybe a septum ring isn’t going to prevent me from reading Shakespeare. It’s not like you can label jewellery as a “distraction” for the boys (and seriously, that’s an awful excuse for the knee-length skirt to begin with), so just let us do as we please! 

State High should be known for its academic achievements AND the happiness of its students. Not it’s academic achievements and the suicide rates, which was the first rumour I had ever heard about Brisbane State High School.

We- the students- demand change. Let us accessorise as we please, or put yourself in our shoes. It’s your decision, Mr Waqa. Freedom for us for confinement for yourself. Let’s hope you choose wisely.
