Heritage High School just announced that they would be canceling all of the American Sign Language classes for the 2018-2019 school year. This means that there would be no ASL Honors Society or ASL Club. ASL has changed my life and many others and they shouldn't take away a whole language that opens up opportunities right here in North Carolina, just to add to other languages that are more popular in other regions of the world. They said they are going to offer some of the courses online but you can't learn a visual language without a teacher in front of you. 160+, including myself, students now are disappointed, hurt, and upset because their classes got canceled and they can't participate in an amazing honors society that truly makes a difference in the Wake County deaf community.
