My sister, Josefina Catherine Cunningham, who was born on July 25, 2019, and was a vibrant three-year-old African American girl whose life was tragically cut short on July 7th in Rensselaer, New York. She was murdered by a white man named Robert J. Fisher. Her story echoes the tragic tale of Emmett Till, the black boy who was brutally killed in Mississippi in the 1950s.
Josefina's death has had a profound impact on me and my family. We believe her story needs to be heard; it should not be another forgotten tragedy but rather recognized as part of our nation's history. There are many unsung heroes and victims like Josefina whose stories have shaped this country yet remain unheard.
I have been inspired by my sister's memory to become a self-published author dedicated to preserving these untold stories that form an integral part of American history. However, I cannot do this alone.
We need your help to bring Josefina's story from local awareness to national recognition. By doing so, we can honor her legacy and shed light on other unheard victims who've significantly impacted our society through their experiences.
Please sign this petition to urge our community leaders and national historians to recognize the life and legacy of Josefina Catherine Cunningham alongside other significant figures in African American history.
