Hello everyone, My name is Adilene and I live with my 2 years old daughter, my disabled mother, my boyfriend and younger sister. I am creating this petition because we have been living in one of the worst living conditions we have ever lived in. I currently have mold in my restroom from poor insulation and it’s been over a month and they have yet to fix it, but even when they would “fix it” they would only paint right over it, leaving the root of the problem still there. We have also asked that the kitchen cabinets be replaced because there was a water leak every time we would shower in our upstairs bathroom. The water would leak through our kitchen cabinets leaving a puddle of water and because of this, the cabinets began to rot. Their solution? To paint right over it. Due to this specific water leak, our kitchen wall beneath our cabinets began to turn black. They “fixed it” by putting a putty like paste that is used to fill in cracks over the black stain and then painted right over it. Im almost positive that it is black mold and if it is, then it is still within our walls. This is the type of negligience on their behalf that I am talking about. They didn't actually fix the problem, they just covered it right up. They didn’t replace the drywall nor did they let it dry properly. Not to mention, the apartments are infested with roaches. We have been containing the issue with a solution I have been paying for out of pocket. We also once had bed bugs which resulted in us having to throw away our entire bedroom sets. I recently made a report to the Health Department so they sent out a letter to the office and they finally agreed to fumigate our apartment, but when asked if they’d be fumigating everyone else’s, they said “no, only yours.” What good would that do if everyone else still has them. I am currently at the point where I’ve grown so tired of the disrespect and negligience and that is the reason I began doing my own research on my rights as a tenant and on the management company. I’ve soon come to realize that my family and I are not the only ones experiencing this. Not only are there many more people experiencing the same , if not WORST living conditions, but this company in particular have been neglecting all of their tenants for DECADES. Yes, decades. They have also been through so many law suits to which resulted in either a Company Name Change or the selling of the company. It is unclear to me whether or not PAMA management was sold or it’s name just changed to Regency Management as of 2020. Nijjar, the owner of PAMA Management, unclear if he is the owner of the now Recency Management, has been neglecting his tenants for decades. Because of this, he has become a multi-millionaire off of the money of his hardworking “low-income tenants.” He has gotten away with it for far too long. The current name is “Regency Management” and nothing has changed which leads me to think Nijjar possibly still owns the company or that the new owners are just like him. I don’t understand how the company is still allowed to do this to their tenants especially nowadays, but I ask you to be a voice for our people. Many do not speak up or take action because they are undocumented and have fear of being deported, and many others fear the thought of being evicted. I am here to let you all know that you do not have to be afraid of doing what’s right. There are laws protecting tenants and they cannot evict you without probable cause. As long as you are doing your part as a good tenant who pays their rent on time you are okay. It’s time to exercise our rights. In order for things to change we need to shed light on this situation and make more people aware of it so that the people with the power to make a change can actually do so. Take a stand to stop this landlord's negligence of uninhabitable living conditions. *I would also like to note,* that many people may be thinking, “well why not just move out?” I’d like to remind people that moving out is not always an option for some, especially not right now with everything rising in cost. Some people just can’t afford it or have a lot going on that could be preventing them from moving out. Believe me, if I could, I would. People do not want to live in horrible living conditions because they want to, but because they have to. This is what Mike Nijjar specifically takes advantage of and the reason why he gets away with it is because he knows people are desperate. Since it is all they can afford he knows they won't leave because then they'd be forced to be homeless. It is the Landlords responsibility to keep their properties up to code & fixing things that need fixing. Online you will find graphic photos of mold, bedbugs, collapsed ceilings, and the company’s horrible online reviews from many of their owned properties across the Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside County, as well as articles that have been published in regards to this exact same issue. If Nijjar is not the owner of Recency Management, I ask that the names of the owners be released. Once again, please help me get the word out and help me get my foot in the door to get justice for us all. Thank you!
