The social media ban of 2027 proposes a lot of risks to teenage lives and happiness. Firstly, many teens use social media as a way to find friends, communities and support they might not have in real life. Being able to socialise on the internet is especially important for those who feel isolated or different from those around them. Secondly, the issue isn't young people being online the issue is the harmful content, addictive algorithms, cyber bullying and poor moderation. Platforms should be made safer than banning teens entirely. Next, social media isn't all bad. While social media can affect mental health, it can also help people stay connected, learn new skills, share creativity and access educational content. Additionally, children who do not live near their family and do not have their personal number will have no way of contacting their loved ones ,which can be deeply upsetting and heartbreaking. As a teenager myself, I am deeply distraught as communication with my long distance/online friends will be cut off entirely.
