PETITION TO THE GOVERNOR OF SOKOTO ALHAJI AMINU TAMBUWAL AND THE SENATORS REPRESENTING SOKOTO STATE

We the concerned citizens of Sokoto State  have observed the dangerous trend that politicians in the state are creating by protesting about the nomination of Aisha Abubakar whose name was submitted by the President Of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We note with Concern the following statements:


1. She is not a card carrying member of APC and has never participated in any of their events:- By virtue of our jobs we are not permitted to be active members of any political party but have made various anonymous contributions in line with what is permitted by our Office code of conduct which we do not have to disclose to you.

2. That she is not competent and hails from the same zone with the Governor:- Looking at her strong academic credentials and proven track record of service in both public and private sectors the issue of competence cannot be in doubt. It is also surprising that this statement is coming at this time when we are living witnesses that Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir was appointed as a minister while Senator Wamakko was Governor and the same Senator Gobir never raised any issue regarding that. Furthermore, we believe that competence should be above any local government zoning consideration.

From your statements you are implying that we are not competent or qualified to serve our country as long as we do not fraternize with politicians. It also means that you prefer to have the citizens whom you have trained by payments of scholarships and exposed by taking the various Sokoto state quotas across the federation to be second class citizens.

We are proud of the fact that Mr. President deemed it fit to select a woman and a technocrat to represent our state as it proves that Sokoto state is not as backward as people might think, and has enough educated and competent people to support Mr. President in achieving his goal of moving the country forward.

We therefore urge you to give her your full support to enable her contribute her quota to the development of our dear country.
