Females in school are always getting dress coded for clothes that are not at all “inappropriate”. All because there is strap of an undergarment showing. That doesn’t mean that they should get told to cover up. It is the same thing with shoulders and legs. As long as the pair of shorts and undergarments that are being worn cover the butt, then the length of them shouldn’t matter. Dress code is very unfair to girls with bigger chests. Girls like me might be able to get away with wearing certain types of shirts, but girls with bigger chests cannot just because of the way their bodies are, which is extremely unfair. As long as a shirt covers the majority of our bodies it should not matter. Showing a slight bit of skin on our stomach isn’t distracting what so ever.  In reality the dress code is sexualizing females. Or the fact that it “distracts” the boys.  you could ask every boy in the school and 99% would not have any issues with it at all. Most of Herscher and Limestone does not have air conditioning, as well as it being hot outside. Girls are dressing for the weather and then having to cover themselves up because it’s a “distraction”. Today it was about 90° outside and P.E is outside and a girl had to do it in a sweatshirt. All because a teacher said her shirt was too inappropriate. The shirt being worn showed hardly any skin and was perfect for the weather. The girls dress code needs changed. Herscher Highschool’s dress code needs to be revised and handled equally. Girls should not be getting dress coded for having a shoulder out, not having shorts longer than their fingertips, or wearing a tank top. They claim these things to be distracting but no male has ever complained about being distracted by barely a belly button or a shoulder which really raises the question, “Who are we really distracting?” Not to mention the unfairness to girls who have bigger chests. On many occasions girls with larger breasts have been dress coded while girls with smaller chests who wore the same exact shirt get no complaints. Not only does the dress code cause insecurities in these females but it shows them male needs come before theirs and that is NOT what we should be teaching females, especially in school. It is also super uncomfy for us teens to be dress coded by an older male staff for our clothes being quote on quote “distracting.”
