Denounce “joke” made of violence; apologise for not responding; state statistics; commit to sensitivity training, conflict resolution in school curriculum, and anti-violence campaign

The Issue

Following the comments made by MP for Tall Pines Leslie Miller in the House of Assembly on February 20, 2014 and the response (or lack thereof) by those present, we find this course of action necessary to:

  • Inform the public of the pervasive and harmful effects of domestic violence in The Bahamas
  • Sensitize the public to the issue of domestic violence in The Bahamas
  • Ensure every student leaving the school system from 2015 onward is trained to safely and appropriately resolve conflicts by de-escalation and non-violent measures
