Stop Killing Stray Dogs (UK)

Stop Killing Stray Dogs (UK)
The Issue
Stop local authorities from killing stray dogs
Responsible department: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to stop local authorities killing dogs who have no home and to scrap the statutory local authority kennelling period, currently set to 7 days - this means dogs can be killed on the 8th day!
Last year an estimated 5,142 homeless dogs were killed by local authorities (Dogs Trust Stray Dog Survey 2015).
To allow the continued breeding of dogs whilst there are not enough homes for all is completely irresposible and to allow the death of 'surplus' dogs is morally reprehensible.
We urge the Government to set initiatives in place to end this killing. Education and low cost/free neutering programs are vital to prevent the over-population crisis, we call on the Governemnt to set these in place to prevent there being not enough homes!
