A lot is at stake when you take away a leader.
The removal of Dr. Randall Woods, Burges High School principal, will be a horrendous choice at this point in the 2012-2013 school year. At the peak of testing, preparation for graduation, and closing out the school year, this will be an unfair detrimental situation to campus students.
On Tuesday, March 26, 2013, Dr. Woods was informed by officials at the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) he was being removed from his position. He has held the position since July of 2010. He served as assistant principal in charge of curriculum and instruction, from 2007 to his promotion to principal. He’s been committed to the school ever since. Under his leadership, Dr. Woods has enhanced faculty and staff morale, school spirit, and community involvement across the board. His vision for the Burges community has been realized in a number of areas:
-Dramatic increase in scholarships awarded to students
-We were one of only seven high schools in the state of Texas to receive the College For All Grant from Texas Education Agency (TEA)
-Physical campus improvements to include:
-Renovated cafeteria
-Senior café
-Main gym bleachers and sound system
-Ninth grade center
-New furniture for library, counseling center, outside freshman center
-Bringing technology to all classes to include video conferencing
