The Rehiring of Officer Justin Diaz

The Rehiring of Officer Justin Diaz
The Issue
Officer Justin Diaz has returned to work on the New Haven Police force, not even three years after paralyzing a man. Randy Cox was arrested on weapons charges on Juneteenth 2022, handcuffed and thrown into the back of a police van without being put into a seatbelt. Diaz was speeding, slammed on the brakes, and Cox was paralyzed. After pleading for help, Diaz called an ambulance, and continued to drive off to the station.
The New Haven Internal affairs mission statement is as follows:
- Investigates misconduct: Internal Affairs investigates complaints about employee misconduct or citizen concerns.
- Maintains integrity: Internal Affairs ensures that the department's integrity is maintained through a system of discipline.
- Assures fairness: Internal Affairs ensures that investigations are impartial and fair.
- Protects rights: Internal Affairs protects the rights of citizens and employees.
- Treats people with respect: Internal Affairs ensures that all people involved are treated with respect.
The rehiring of Officer Diaz and its implications is a direct violation and threat to the integrity of this statement and to our community. If you do not stand with the rehiring, and support of police violence and misconduct in your community; Stand together - call New Haven Internal Affairs [(203) 946-6316] and voice your complaints, and sign and share this petition:
