Property developer cuts down mature trees they say are “brambles”

The Issue

Last week, an entire area of natural wildlife habitat containing mature trees - an orchard and wood, has been devastated by property developer – Linden Homes, Galliford Try Plc.

The area has Green Belt protected status as Metropolitan Open Land (MOL).

In their Planning Application the developer claimed the area to be “brambles” and “impenetrable”, where in fact it was mature trees (oaks, elms, birches, apple trees etc.)

The birds were still nesting (second brood) in the trees, which are now lying on the ground.

In only 2 days we and Greenwich Council has lost a precious source of oxygen and habitat for birds and other wildlife.

The planning application and drawings made false claims about the true nature of the vegetation.

It is not clear what, or if any survey was carried out by the local authority. And who authorised the felling and clearing of the area, in particular the mature trees.

It is also not clear how are the planning decisions justified for more football pitches in - there is disproportionate number of existing, disused football grounds in the area.

This site requires urgent attention.

Please come and see the facts on the ground - and what the site looks like today.
