Stop teaching children to be cruel to pigeons
Cruelty to our friends, the pigeons, such as kicking, tormenting and chasing them, makes parks and public places unsafe and threatening.
It is offensive and deeply distressing to see.
See my petition below. It has 15,807 signatures. Please sign and share it.
Pigeons are beautiful birds and lifesavers of war. Why are children encouraged in this abuse? Why are they being taught cruelty?
Pigeons are theoretically protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. This law is not enforced, so the abuse continues.
Today, everyone wants to be treated with respect, and many animals and birds receive special protection, but pigeons are excluded from being fed, and are kicked, chased, maligned and persecuted, at almost every opportunity. Why?
The heroism of pigeons in saving thousands of lives in wartime, as messengers, should be recognised and celebrated, and the abuse of these amazing birds must become something that nobody does any longer, because it is not “acceptable”.
This petition faces a wall of silence whenever it is submitted to the Government, or to anyone else with the power to stop the cruelty. Nevertheless, many voices speaking out against the cruelty will help bring about change.
Please help, as follows:-
