Let’s give pigeons a life worth living!
Cruelty to pigeons is a matter of great concern to thousands of people. It affects our safety and well-being in parks and other public places. It is very difficult to enjoy a walk in the park while the abuse of pigeons is allowed to continue, unchallenged. It is also deeply upsetting to see. Nobody wants to be threatened for defending pigeons, as I was. I shall never forget that traumatic experience.
Pigeons are beautiful birds, who are theoretically protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. This law, however, is not being enforced. Result? The abuse continues.
It makes no sense that, in our society, where everyone is expected to be treated with respect, and many animals and birds receive special protection, pigeons should be excluded from being fed, and are kicked, chased, maligned and persecuted, at almost every opportunity.
The heroism of pigeons in saving our nation in wartime, as messengers, must be recognised and celebrated and the abuse of these amazing birds must become something that nobody does any longer, because it is no longer “acceptable”.
Unbelievably, this petition has faced a wall of silence whenever it has been submitted to the Government, or to anyone else with the power to stop this cruelty. How can that be fair? We want pigeons to be effectively protected by law.
Please help, as follows:-
- Contact Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, and ask her to stop pigeon persecution and abuse, the most cruel form of antisocial behaviour -

- Ask the Prime Minister to enforce the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which “protects” all wild birds, including pigeons, but is not being enforced.
