- Following my email to the Chair of the National Trust, Mr René Olivieri, I have received the following response -
“Thank you for your email addressed to our Chair, René Olivieri. Our Supporter Services Centre have forwarded your email to us and René has asked me to respond to you on his behalf.
I’m sorry that pigeon abuse at public places still concerns you. As you mention this has been happening at some of the places in our care, I’ve flagged your email with our Head of Conservation and Nature so that they’re aware. We would advise if you notice any of this abuse happening at our properties to report this to the property team as this isn’t something we would condone. I’m afraid as an organisation we wouldn’t be able to sign your petition, however we’re impressed with the amount of passion and effort you’ve put into this, as it’s clearly a cause which means a lot to you.
While I appreciate this isn’t the response you were hoping for, we thank you again for contacting us.”
- I have now heard from the Head of Campaigns at Animal Aid. They are unable to include my petition on their website. Nevertheless, they do protect pigeons in other ways.
- I shall now resubmit my petition to the Prime Minister. I will report back when he responds.
Please help -
1. Please sign and share my petition. Let’s reach 15,000 signatures:-
2. Hear the song, “Please be Nice to Pigeons”:-

3. How can your MP help? By voting to give pigeons special protection, as sentient birds, under the new Animal Welfare Sentience laws. MPs can also call for a debate on pigeon abuse in Parliament. Will they?

4. Contact celebrities, well known personalities, charities and the media, newspapers etc to highlight the problem, and to ask for help in promoting this campaign. I am still waiting to hear from Classic fm, the BBC and The Imperial War Museum. Please feel free to contact anyone who might help. I need everyone to speak against the cruelty. I cannot achieve this alone. The Culture of Cruelty and Acceptance of Abuse of pigeons must be exposed, outlawed and stopped.
5. Contact the Department for Education and ask them to feature animal welfare - particularly pigeon welfare, in the National Curriculum for Schools. Children should learn to respect pigeons and all animals from an early age.
6. If you see pigeons being abused, or if you personally experience abuse for defending pigeons, please report these incidents, for example, to the police, the RSPCA or the property team at National Trust properties, so that they are aware that this is happening.
7. Pigeon abuse isn’t funny. It is naked aggression. It is animal abuse. It must be stopped, pronto.
Thank you.
