Pigeon abuse is Speciesism. It is incredibly cruel. Let’s get it stopped in parks and public places!
The National Trust was founded so that everyone can benefit from nature, beauty and history. In its aims to 2025, the Trust says -
“We are working to create a culture that values difference, includes everyone and recognises the strength that comes from diversity. Everyone should feel welcome at our workplaces, and at the places in our care. We will not tolerate any form of discrimination, bullying or harassment.”
Nevertheless, the Trust is silent on the subject of pigeon abuse, which happens at the many places in its care. Pigeons are chased, kicked, bullied and excluded from being fed.
If the National Trust encouraged all visitors to respect pigeons, just like other birds, this would cancel some of the cruelty towards them. Maybe the Trust could include literature containing positive facts about pigeons and their amazing lifesaving role in wartime, as messengers and winners of the PDSA Dickin Medal, in their gift shops and bookshops.
Please help -
1. Please ask the National Trust to stop allowing pigeons to be abused on its land and to protect them. Then everyone can enjoy their visit in safety - without feeling threatened by people who bully, harass and abuse pigeons. The new Chair of the Trust is Mr René Olivieri.

5. Contact well known personalities, charities and the media to ask for help in promoting this campaign. I am still waiting to hear from the Chair of the National Trust, Classic fm, the BBC, Animal Aid and The Imperial War Museum. Please feel free to contact anyone who might help. I need everyone to speak out against the cruelty. I cannot achieve this alone.
6. Contact the Department for Education and ask them to feature animal welfare - particularly pigeon welfare, in the National Curriculum for Schools. Children should learn to respect pigeons and all animals from an early age. This is essential.
