Who will stop the abuse of pigeons now?
I submitted this petition to the Prime Minister on 21 September, with 10,000 signatures. Today - one month later - there is still no response.
Pigeon abuse leads to a culture of cruelty, and yet further abuse of animals and people. Why is it being ignored? Why are our voices not being heard?
My letters to Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London have received the reply that the mayor has “no jurisdiction over pigeons” and tell me to contact the RSPB.
The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) has no interest in protecting pigeons from abuse.
Where is our Nation Of Animal Lovers?
Prince William and Kate launched The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to “drive awareness of, and action on, the extraordinary impact of the early years, changing what we think and do on early childhood, in order to transform society for generations to come.”

Teaching children kindness to pigeons, and all creatures, must be top of their agenda.

3. Ask the Prime Minister to respond to our petition, and keep his promise, made on Holocaust Memorial Day, to the House of Commons, to “fight against ALL forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found”, by outlawing pigeon abuse and giving pigeons specific protection under the law.

Please respond to our petition to “Stop the Abuse of Pigeons in Parks, gardens and streets and protect pigeons by law”, sent to you on 21 September.
Please keep your promise, made in the House of Commons on Holocaust Memorial Day, to “fight against all forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found” by outlawing and stopping pigeon abuse in parks and public places, and giving pigeons full, specific protection under the Animal Welfare Sentience laws and Action Plan for Animal Welfare.

6. Carrier pigeons saved thousands of lives in wartime, as messengers. 32 pigeons won the PDSA Dickin Medal, in recognition of their outstanding service and sacrifice.
During World War II, pigeons were carried on planes, ships and submarines and if a vessel came under attack, a pigeon would be sent out to seek help, with a message attached to its leg. Risking their own lives, pigeons saved the lives of stranded soldiers, sailors, airmen, and civilians. Trained to fly by night, they could reach speeds of a mile a minute.
Winkie, pictured above, was the first recipient of the PDSA Dickin Medal. She flew for 120 miles, and was able to bring rescue to four airmen, whose plane had crashed into the North Sea. Winkie became the toast of the air base, with a dinner held in her honour. She received the Dickin Medal for "delivering a message under exceptional difficulties".
In Italy, Pigeon GI Joe flew with a message, which saved an entire town from being bombed.
Over 60 animals received the Dickin Medal, including 18 dogs, three horses and one cat. But pigeons still rule, with 32 being awarded medals, between 1943 and 1949.
7. Please ask the royal British Legion to honour pigeons’ heroic wartime role in their annual Remembrance Commemorations. This would give pigeons a far better public image, and might help stop the cruelty towards them.
