Pigeon abuse is being perpetuated by the Government, and is being deliberately ignored by the very people who have the power to stop it.
The Government ignored this petition, when I sent it to them on 21 September 2021, with 10,000 signatures. I have received no response.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, says he has “no jurisdiction over pigeons”, and has referred my concerns about pigeon abuse to the RSPCA. This defies belief. Pigeon abuse was started, in the first place, by the former London Mayor in 2001, when he gave pigeons a bad name and banned them from Trafalgar Square!
Pigeon abuse perpetuates a Culture of Cruelty in the U.K. This is dangerous. It leads to further violence and abuse - of animals and people.
Who can stop this? Where is our Nation Of Animal Lovers now?
Children must be taught to respect pigeons and all creatures and never to bully or abuse them.
Prince William and Kate launched The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to “drive awareness of, and action on, the extraordinary impact of the early years, changing what we think and do on early childhood, in order to transform society for generations to come.”

1. Please ask the Royal Foundation Centre to teach children to be kind to pigeons. What we teach children in the early years stays with them. The early years are so important.
2. Ask the Prime Minister to keep his promise, made on Holocaust Memorial Day, 27 January 2021, to “fight against ALL forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found”, by outlawing pigeon abuse and giving pigeons specific protection under the law.

Please keep your promise, made on Holocaust Memorial Day to “fight against all forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found” by outlawing and stopping pigeon abuse in parks and public places, and giving pigeons full, specific protection under the Animal Welfare Sentience laws and Action Plan for Animal Welfare.
It is unacceptable and undemocratic that pigeon abuse continues to blight our “Nation of Animal Lovers”.

6. Pigeons risked their lives for us, and saved thousands of human lives in wartime, as messengers. 32 pigeons won the PDSA Dickin Medal, in recognition of their outstanding service and sacrifice.
During World War II, carrier pigeons were routinely carried by planes, ships and submarines and if a vessel came under attack, a pigeon would be sent out to seek help, with a message attached to its leg.
Pigeons flew under enemy fire, often wounded, but many reached their destination and saved the lives of stranded soldiers, sailors, airmen, and civilians. They were trained to fly by night and could reach speeds of a mile a minute.
Winkie, whose story is told in a previous update, was the first recipient of the PDSA Dickin Medal. She flew for 120 miles, and was able to bring rescue to four airmen.
Winkie became the toast of the air base, with a dinner held in her honour. She received the Dickin Medal for "delivering a message under exceptional difficulties".
Over 60 animals received the Dickin Medal, including 18 dogs, three horses and one cat. But pigeons still rule, with 32 being awarded medals, between 1943 and 1949.
Please ask the royal British Legion to honour pigeons’ heroic wartime role in their annual Remembrance Commemorations. This would give pigeons a far better public image.
