Pigeons, our Life-Saving Heroes of War are being abused!
Carrier pigeons saved thousands of human lives during wartime as messengers. 32 pigeons won the PDSA Dickin Medal for their outstanding wartime service and bravery.
Pigeons served alongside soldiers, sailors and airmen. They carried messages, across land and sea, when all other forms of communication had failed. Flying for hundreds of miles, often wounded, and under enemy fire, they brought hope and saved lives, in desperate situations and when all other means of communication had failed.
In spite of this, pigeons are being abused, often by children encouraged by adults, in full public view. This needs to stop,
Pigeons deserve recognition and thanks as our heroes of war. They need a better chance of a good life and a better public image.
A feature about pigeons in wartime by the Royal British Legion would greatly enhance their image in the eyes of the public.

Ask the Royal British Legion to feature a dramatisation of the heroic role played by carrier pigeons, as vital messengers, during both World Wars, at the annual Remembrance Commemorations in November.

2. Please contact the Prime Minister to ask him to outlaw pigeon abuse, as a Hate Crime, so that it becomes something that nobody does any longer. It must become no longer acceptable in our society today.

Pigeons are sentient beings. They are beautiful wild birds. They do not deserve to be abused. No living creature deserves to be kicked, chased and bullied.

Please see my suggested draft letter to Boris in my previous petition update. Ask him to make the outlawing of pigeon abuse a People’s Priority.
We need a response from the government to our petition, submitted on 21 September 2021. This matter of pigeon abuse leads to abuse of animals and people. It concerns everyone. It must be solved for the sake of abused pigeons, and because everyone has the right to enjoy parks and public places, and for them to be abuse-free.
Let’s stand together against hatred towards pigeons!
My petition, meanwhile, remains open because its presence on the internet is needed to assist the Prime Minister, to achieve the necessary correction of public opinion.
Let’s stand against cruelty to pigeons - abused, just for existing!
