Going to the park used to be fun, but nowadays pigeons are relentlessly abused there. Goodness knows why! This is so unfair.
Giving these beleaguered birds, the pigeons, a better life, is my goal in creating this petition which aims to stop pigeon abuse, and the acceptance of pigeon abuse as somehow “normal” in our nation today, once known as a Nation Of Animal Lovers.
Generally, it is extremely dangerous or risky to defend pigeons from abuse in public places; anyone standing up for the poor pigeons risks retribution, or even physical attack in return. A grievous fate has befallen some pigeons, who have been so badly injured by being kicked by people that they have had to be put to sleep, to end their suffering. This was the case in Gateshead, when a lone pigeon was attacked at a bus stop by a group of people, and was left half dead. It had to be euthanised.
Pigeons are great company, gregarious, beautiful, sociable and intelligent, but a negative media stance towards them has generated hostility.
In wartime, fearless pigeons saved thousands of human lives, as messengers. Giving hope when communications had failed, they helped facilitate the D Day landings, which eventually led to victory. GI Joe, a pigeon during WW2, flew with a message on his leg, which saved an entire town in Italy from being bombed.
Pigeons today rarely even get a mention in the Remembrance Sunday commemorations. This must change, as pigeons were vital in helping to save our nation during its darkest days of war.
Lets Give pigeons a good life! A better life! Then, we can all enjoy parks and public places, without seeing gratuitous abuse of these birds.

it is fundamental to teach children to be kind to pigeons and all creatures, from an early age. Goodness and kindness towards all animals will then stay with that child for the rest of their lives.
Good parents are key here. They should teach their children gentleness and kindness towards pigeons and all creatures. This is so important for pigeons and other animals, and for a child’s future.
