Going to the park used to be fun, but now pigeons are abused there by children, encouraged by adults. This is Speciesism. It is cruel and shocking to see.
Pigeons are sociable and intelligent. They are excellent parents to their young and lovely to watch. They should be welcomed to our parks and public places, as they once were - before they were banished from Trafalgar Square in 2001, and the public were taught, by media and politicians, to hate them.
Good parents should teach children gentleness and kindness towards pigeons.
Carrier pigeons saved thousands of human lives in both World Wars, as vital messengers. Their courage and sacrifice gave hope when all other communication had failed and helped facilitate the D Day landings, which led to victory.
Pigeons hardly ever get a mention now in the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations. Why not?
Forget the abuse! Give kindness to pigeons!
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Kate) launched The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to “drive awareness of, and action on, the extraordinary impact of the early years, changing what we think and do on early childhood, in order to transform society for generations to come.”

Please ask the Prime Minister to keep his promise, made to the House of Commons on Holocaust Memorial Day, 27 January 2021, to “fight against all forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found”, by outlawing pigeon abuse and specifically giving pigeons protection under the law. Dear Prime Minister
Please keep your promise, made on Holocaust Memorial Day, 27 January 2021, to the House of Commons, to “fight against all forms of hatred and prejudice, wherever they are found” by outlawing and stopping the abuse of pigeons in parks and public places, and specifically giving pigeons protection under the law. It is completely unacceptable that pigeon abuse remains unchallenged in our Nation of Animal Lovers.
Thank you.
