Pigeons are amazing creatures, who are able to navigate using the sun and the Earth’s magnetic field.  They can return to their lofts after flying for hundreds of miles.

As vital messengers during World Wars 1 and 2, pigeons saved thousands of human lives and won the PDSA Dickin Medal for their outstanding service and bravery.  They should be celebrated today as our heroes of war, along with our war veterans, and given the recognition they richly deserve, as well as protection from regular abuse and persecution.

Parents and teachers must encourage children to be kind to pigeons, wherever they are found. Kicking and chasing defenceless pigeons is antisocial and unacceptable.  It is heartbreaking to see this abuse of pigeons in our parks and public places.

Pigeons were loved and fed - until media negativity against them began, and led to an era of abuse and persecution, which persists to this day.  Pigeon abuse is speciesism, the animal equivalent of racism.  Speciesist attitudes result in cruelty to many defenceless creatures.

Pigeons deserve happy lives. They pose no risk to human health, as confirmed by vets and the RSPB.

Speciesism must be outlawed and stopped.

Let’s give pigeons a good life!

Please ask your MP to protect pigeons under the new Animal Welfare Sentience laws and the Action Plan for Animal Welfare. Contact your MP on writetothem.com
