The President and the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

We, Muslim Community of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, collectively forward this petition to His Excellency Gothabhaya Rajapakshe, President and Hon'ble Mahinda Rajapakshe, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to reconsider revoking the Extra-Ordinary Gazette notification No.61A dated 11th April 2020, issued by the Hon'ble Pavithra Devi Wanniarachci, Minister of Health and STOP all cremation of Muslim deaths and permit us, the Muslim Community of this country to exercise our religious rights as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

We also wish to reiterate the fact, that cremating 9f our beloved deceased are against our religious beliefs and this fact has been upheld by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in their directives to member countries, which clearly states that both Burial and Cremation is allowed and it further states that the religious beliefs of all religions should be addressed & upheld in the exercise of the burials. Amnesty International, by their letter dated 03rd April 2020 addressed to His Excellency Gothabhaya Rajapakshe on this volatile issue.
