Religious Abuse

The Issue

Dear Mr President,

On behalf of Ghanaians in the Diaspora, we are petitioning to seek for reinforcement of Law and Order in Ghana, especially over the alleged captured crimes, taxes invasion, breaches of human right laws and the violation of Non-governmental non-profit organizational Act of Law.

The Non-governmental non-profit Organizational law forbids individuals and/or founders of organizations to privitalize wealth and assets of the Organizations, or Church ministry or any kind of Associations. With regards to the operation of Charismatic churches, there are clear evidence of tax evasion, pocketing public donations and swindling the wealth of both rich and poor.

Allegedly, they are defrauding the general public in the exact way of fraudsters and scammers, with all kinds of abuse in the name of Christianity. As Ghanaians living in the diaspora, we are very frustrated on watching and listening to events going on, on the social media and hence we have decided to petition you, so that the perpetrators would be investigated and dealt with accordingly.

Please Mr President, we also wish to demand for immediate arrest of prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi and Nigel Gaisie for treason offences due to their utterances before and after election which impacted to the cause of current post election mayhem, burning havoc and recent devastations.

Mr President, we would be most grateful if you and your cabinet, could pass a bill to Parliament for an amendment to regulate crime-free churches of its kind with regards the abuse of Human Rights Act. .

Although it may sound harsh, we are very much aware our constitution permits freedom of worship and Ghana being predominantly a Christian country, must abide by the constitution. It has come to our notice that, the Pastors in charge of these churches, are taking advantage of the vulnerable citizens through a process which violates their Human Right and therefore we wish to petition you for the closure of Charismatic churches in Ghana.

We have witnessed in videos, pastors who are selling all kinds of products in their church which contradicts the word of God in Matthew 21:13, ‘My House will be called a house of prayer’ But you are making it, ‘a den of robbers.’ This was said by Jesus when the people were selling in the church.

These products in question, are mostly made with chemicals which are not meant for human consumption and it is really having a lot of health issues, on the congregation which some of them have died as a result. Despite the word of God stated in Matthew 10:8 ‘Freely you have received, freely give’, the pastors still insist on consultation fee from the congregation, when they are going to them for counselling etc although they are not paying any taxes to help develop the economy of the country. From videos and verbal complaints, we could see that the church members are subjected to indoctrination, hence they only do what the pastors have instructed them to do and this has brought a lot of confusion in various homes, families, marriages, place of work just to mention a few. The pastors manage to abuse the Human Rights of their congregation by INSTRUCTING them to vote for candidate Mahama and went ahead to cast insinuation and issued threats on anybody who failed to comply with their instructions which violates the electoral regulations.

Mr President, we hope to suggest that, our Constitution MUST be amended and there should be a law which would require the Faith- based Organizations to obtain legal status before beginning operations. It MUST also be mandatory, for the legal representatives of the Faith-based Organizations and preachers with supervisory responsibilities, to hold academic degree. Please find attached videos as evidence of what church members are going through in the hands of their supposed pastors. We thank you so much, for all the good work you and your honourable team are doing for Ghana and we will keep praying for you and for the Salvation of the Lord. May God richly bless you and our Homeland Ghana.
