Since the introduction of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) into the Premier League in August 2019 the game has become a less enjoyable experience for players, coaches, media, pundits and most importantly fans. The system has not been implemented like it has been abroad and as the proposed solution to remove controversy, improve consistency and to remove clear and obvious errors, it’s current implementation is determining all 3.

The purpose of this Petition is to force the footballing authorities and, if necessary the department for digital, culture, media and sport to review the role of VAR in the game. 

The use of video technology to assist officials in making the correct decisions is not flawed, but the physical contact element of football makes it very different to the systems in Cricket and Tennis, where  video replays are used to determine factual decisions, (in or out, over the line or not, this is partly why goal line technology is so successful in football) where as VAR is being used to judge momentum, intent and physicality, something which still images simply cannot represent. 

VAR is being used currently for selected situations  in the game, judged to only be those as the most critical,  which in itself is causing inconsistency.
