The Issue

We, the undersigned, come together in concern for the well-being of students and the integrity of education. Our petition advocates for the prohibition of Dreambox, an educational software platform that poses significant risks to students' mental health, cognitive development, and academic progress.

Dreambox, marketed as an adaptive learning tool, claims to personalize student learning experiences. However, mounting evidence suggests that its methodologies can be detrimental rather than beneficial. Below are the key reasons why we demand the ban of Dreambox:

1. Detrimental Impact on Mental Health: Dreambox's gamification of learning often leads to excessive screen time, contributing to sedentary lifestyles and exacerbating issues related to digital addiction. Prolonged exposure to screens has been linked to sleep disturbances, anxiety, and depression among children and adolescents.

2. Limited Development of Critical Thinking Skills: Dreambox relies heavily on algorithmic approaches to learning, which can inhibit the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students become accustomed to following predetermined pathways rather than engaging in exploratory and creative learning experiences.

3. Privacy Concerns: The collection of vast amounts of student data by Dreambox raises serious privacy concerns. The platform gathers information on students' learning habits, preferences, and performance, potentially compromising their privacy and exposing them to data breaches or misuse.

4. Exacerbation of Educational Inequities: Access to Dreambox is not uniform across all socioeconomic backgrounds. Its implementation often exacerbates educational inequities, as students from disadvantaged communities may lack access to the necessary technology or resources to fully utilize the platform, widening the achievement gap.

5. Subversion of Educators' Role: Dreambox's emphasis on automated learning undermines the role of educators as facilitators and mentors. It diminishes the human connection in the learning process, hindering students' ability to receive personalized support and guidance from qualified teachers.
In light of these concerns, we urge [Relevant Authorities] to take immediate action to ban Dreambox from educational institutions. Instead, we advocate for the adoption of evidence-based educational approaches that prioritize holistic learning experiences, foster critical thinking skills, and promote student well-being.

It is our collective responsibility to safeguard the educational rights and mental health of our students. By banning Dreambox, we take a crucial step towards creating a nurturing and equitable learning environment for all.

Sincerely,

Joshua Langley
