SAVE MARTHA LOU’S KITCHEN

SAVE MARTHA LOU’S KITCHEN
The Issue
Martha Lou’s Kitchen, located on Morrison Drive, has been a mainstay of African-American/Geechee culture and cuisine for almost 40 years in the city of Charleston, South Carolina. Mrs. Martha Lou always rented the property her restaurant was located on, and recently, unbeknownst to her, the land was sold to a retail developer. When asked about if she would continue, she said that she can no longer operate her restaurant due to the high cost of rent in the ever-changing, gentrified Charleston area. IDK HOW TO HELP, I’M POOR AND DON’T HAVE A LOT OF MONEY BUT THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE A HISTORICAL LANDMARK AND WE MUST SAVE MARTHA LOU’S KITCHEN! ANYWAY POSSIBLE! Charleston’s Black culture is slowly being lost to history due to the vast amounts of Gentrification going on in the city, and has been for years. I was born here, and love this city; but I’m also not stupid. The physical and emotional fortitude of African Americans is what built this city. We have to stand up with them and support in someway. This petition is to save the building from being demolished, and having it possibly moved to a different location. Please sign this and share it everywhere.
