Hello everyone,
I hope your lives have been less busy than mine! I would like to update you on what occurred on January 19th. The Volusia County Council met and an item was placed on the agenda regarding conservation on the loop: "Direction on the acquisition of approximately 36 acres of land within the Plantation Oaks development for conservation/park purposes." This can be found on the Volusia County website under Agendas. Suzanne Scheiber and I both spoke at different times during this meeting and urged the County Council to consider purchasing this land with the aid of grants.
After much debate, the County Council voted in agreement. 6-0. This is a huge win, quite possibly the biggest achievement thus far. Currently, the County Council is exploring grant applications to purchase the land. The land up for purchase is 36 acres and consists of 76 lots (or homes). The Volusia County Council is now going to explore funding for this land.
Again, please feel free to reach out to my Facebook page or my email (nataliepilipczak@gmail.com) if you have any questions or help to offer. I just wanted to update all of you and explain the current situation of the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail. Here's to a new year and new hope!
