Stand Against Homelessness

The Issue

On any given night, there are over 50,000 homeless people in New York City, more than any time since the Great Depression. CUCS thinks we should have a group just as large standing against homelessness.

Now let's get more specific. Today, NYC has 60,352 people sleeping in shelters, and of those, 25,640 are children. Just take a second and image the new Yankee's Stadium. If we gave each homeless person a seat, the stadium would be overcrowded and roughly 10,065 people would be left outside.

These numbers do not even take into account the homeless people residing in domestic violence, faith-based, and youth shelters or those spending nights on a friend's couch, at a drop-in center or on the street.

But together we have the power to help rebuild lives; such was the case for William, one of our clients at CUCS. “I want to be a great father to my son and family,” William told us. "I want to give him what I never had and always want to be there for him physically, emotionally and financially.” While William was able to turn his life around, there are still tens of thousands of people like him living in NYC.

This is where you come in.  With over 8 million people in New York City, we believe it is not too much to ask that we stand together, 1 to 1, for rebuilding the lives of homeless and disadvantaged individuals and families. We need at least 50,000 people to stand up for change. If we, the people of NYC, stand up and stand strong against homelessness, then we can turn the tide in NYC for the years to come.  Sign this pledge to take a stand with us.
