Take down the confederate monument in Austin

The Issue

The confederate monument standing in the middle of the state capitol is a direct insult to the Black/African-American community here in Austin. The monument states that men and soldiers of the confederacy “died for state rights guaranteed under  the constitution”. These “rights” that the men died fighting for just so happen to be the right to hold their fellow man in bondage and servitude. To memorialize and uphold such men with these views shows not only Austin’s but the entire state of Texas attitude toward the plight of Black/African-American community here in the capitaland state. We demand for the immediate removal of the statue to show that Austin and Texas truly is sorry for their participation in the war against blacks here on American soil.
