Adopt don’t Shop! Save the dogs from death row!
They say dogs are man’s best friend. Dogs serve the widest array of roles: protector, helper, lifesaver, and companion. Dogs are incredible friends to people, and they’ve been companions through centuries. But as time goes by dogs are being left out, they are being neglected resulting them to live in the streets begging for food in order to survive. Have you ever heard about dogs death row? Dogs that are walking around the streets are being placed in the shelter and will wait for someone who will adopt and take care of them, but if left unclaimed for two weeks, at the most, these dogs are killed. Pawssion Project founder Malou Perez shared on Instagram “As per the law, if they are not rescued or adopted in three days to two weeks the most, they will be killed,”
Animal welfare organization Pawssion Project is calling on animal lovers to save dogs from being terminated at a Bulacan pound. Pawssion Project announced last Thursday, Oct. 15, that 100 dogs and a number of cats were on “death row” because they had been in the City of San Jose Del Monte (SJDM) pound for over a month. Pawssion Project can accommodate 30 dogs into their shelter, also located at the City of San Jose Del Monte. Those interested in adopting a dog can either visit their shelter or the city pound. She said that if one wants to get a dog from the pound, they can contact Pawssion Project so that the adoption fee will be covered. Meanwhile, adopting from Pawssion Project is free and involves a screening process.
Animals in our nation’s shelters are very much like human prisoners on death row. They wait, in pound or shelter often for excruciatingly long, to die. There is often a slim hope that they will get a reprieve, but eventually the appeals are denied and their time runs out. Dogs death is supposed to be quick and painless, though things can go wrong, even with lethal injection, and death can be drawn-out and painful. In other ways, of course, dogs in shelters are nothing like prisoners on death row. Most importantly, the dogs are innocent. They have done nothing other than be the castoffs of irresponsible owners or pet stores. They exist outside of our legal structure and lack any protection. Instead of a handful of prisoners awaiting death, there are millions of dogs and other animals just biding their time. Let us save dogs from death row, adopt don’t shop!
