The Norwich City School District has failed to fairly enforce their sexist dress code for far too long. We, the students who are willfully signing this petition demand immediate change. Not only is the dress code sexist, but school administrators do not hold every student to the same standard. We are asking the NCSD to either enforce the dress code equally among all students, or get rid of the dress code all together.

First of all, we should not be forbidden from wearing tank tops, off the shoulder tops, ripped jeans, shorter shorts and skirts because we will 'distract the boys.' Instead, the administrators and educators of the NCSD should encourage male students to respect girls, discourage them from viewing females as objects, and master the art of self control.

Second, if the Norwich City School District insists on upholding the dress code, all students should be expected to follow the rules, regardless of gender or favoritism. If girls are not permitted to wear shirts that reveal their shoulders, neither should boys. If one student gets punished for violating the dress code, every student who violates the dress code should be punished the same.  Some girls have been suspended or asked to change their clothes because they wore a tank top, while others wear extremely short skirts and fishnet stockings throughout the day without reprimand. We demand fairness and equality for all students.
