Keep Slieve Roe House in Kilkeel open as a residential care/respite home for the elderly

The Issue

Slieve Roe House in Kilkeel is a Government-run residential care and respite home for the elderly. It sits at the heart of the Mourne and Kilkeel community. It is adjacent to a very good day centre and the new Primary Care Cemtre and library. It is excellently run but is faced with closure by the Health Trust following a decision by the Minister for Health to close a number of care homes. My husband receives regular respite care at this home, a necessity for both of us as I care full-time. The Slieve Roe staff are excellent. They manage his complex medicine needs to control his Parkinsons 6 times a day (essential) and on the last stay even coached him for his forthcoming role as father of the bride! There is no local alternative at the same standard. The closure of this home will have a significant effect on our quality of life and that of many people in Kilkeel and Mourne. Why close a place for which there is high demand and which demonstrates such excellence. PLEASE KEEP SLIEVE ROE HOUSE OPEN
