Stand with Immigrants and Keep Licenses for All New Mexicans

The Issue

New Mexico Dreamers in Action (NM DIA) thanks New Mexico Senate Democrats for standing with immigrants and keeping licenses for all New Mexicans regardless of immigration status.

New Mexico Dreamers in Action (NM DIA) believes all New Mexican students and our families should have the right to drive and identify ourselves with state issued identification. It's about public safety, human rights and preventing racial profiling of "driving certificates" or not having licenses at all. As immigrant students and allies, we want to keep drivers' licenses for all New Mexicans!

Some bills, like HB 103, repeal licenses for New Mexicans without social security numbers which would affect our ability to identify ourselves, drive to school, church and work and also impact our families and communities. Other bills, like SB235, provide a compromise with tougher proof of residency requirements but allows all New Mexicans to be able to access a license. We stand with and support legislators who want licenses for all New Mexicans and are willing to compromise if that's what it takes to keep drivers licensed!

LIcenses allow students and our families to participate fully in our communities. Please vote no on HB103 to repealing one of the most progressive and immigrant-friendly laws that make our communities and New Mexico more safe every day that all New Mexicans have the opportunity to drive with licenses as well as registered and insured cars. Vote yes on SB235 to the compromise bill that allows for licenses and strengthens policies to prevent fraud.

New Mexico Dreamers in Action (NM DIA) believes in equal access to higher education in New Mexico for all students regardless of immigration status, a path to citizenship for DREAM-eligible students, and comprehensive immigration reform for our families. Check out more information at www.nmdia.org.

New Mexico students and allies thank the New Mexico Senate Democrats for standing with immigrant students and families in New Mexico who contribute each and every day to our communities and the state's economy.
