The New Lighthouse Concept & National Oversight for Unfounded Child Custody Claims
The Issue
I survived the family court system twice, in two different states. My three children were taken from me based on false allegations without any real proof. This nightmare began in Kitsap County, Washington, and then happened again in Washington County, Oregon. Despite being proven fit, it wasn't enough to prevent the trauma my family endured. How can this keep happening when I'm acknowledged as a fit parent? Why were my children taken when I pose no threat?
This isn't just my story. It's a nationwide issue where the family court system operates on a guilty-until-proven-innocent model, punishing capable parents and traumatizing the children it claims to protect. Data shows that 80% of allegations are unfounded according to the National Coalition for Child Protection Reform. Yet the system lacks accountability, leading to wrongful separations based on mere suspicion rather than facts.
A major study found caseworkers are multiple times more likely to wrongly accuse an innocent family than to fail to act on a guilty one. They work in a fear-driven environment, more concerned about being blamed for inaction than the fallout from tearing families apart. This defensive social work harms families, and the low burden of proof needed allows baseless accusations to cause irrevocable damage. In divorce and custody disputes, false allegations often act as weapons, hindering fair resolutions.
To prevent more families from suffering unjust separations, we need national oversight on child custody claims. Such oversight can ensure that claims are thoroughly and fairly evaluated and that truth prevails over conjecture. By enforcing higher standards and accountability, we can change the broken system that devastates countless families.
The Lighthouse Vision: Institutional Accountability & Objective Pattern-Matching
To eradicate the weaponization of family courts, the new global standard must dismantle the double standards currently used against protective parents. When an abuser attempts to flip the script by claiming the victim is "unstable," or when a victim presents a valid CPTSD or trauma-related diagnosis resulting directly from sustained abuse, the judicial response must completely pivot away from automatic penalization and toward rigorous, objective scrutiny of the accuser.
Join me in calling for federal oversight to reduce wrongful family separations across the United States. Sign this petition to support a necessary change that protects our families and restores justice to the family court system.
